About Us
Hi my name is Andy Kendall and from a tender age of 12, I always wanted to be a Chef. I used to watch my mother preparing food from fresh ingredients, and making the family treats and chocolate bars, so that's where I have my passion for food.
When I was 15, I took on an apprentiship in a local bakery which led me on to working for one of the largest elderly care homes in the UK. I was helping cater for 1200 meals per day and really loved learning about food and new dishes. I was able to go to college while working there and gained all my qualifications which lead me to move up the company from assistant cook, to chef, chef in charge, assistant head chef and then to catering manager where I spent 20 years working for the same company.
It was then I decided I needed to push myself and ended up being the Area Facilities Manager for another group of care homes, ten in all with a staff of 127 in each home. Within this time I gained more qualifications which enabled me to teach within the group.
I stayed with this group for 5 years but my heart was always in cooking and working in a kitchen environment so I applied and became Head Chef at Manchester University keeping 2500 uni students fed and happy in the halls of residence. I loved my job but my circumstances changed, so decided to come to Gozo for a new life and beginning.
When I arrived on Gozo I managed to obtain a fast food Kiosk at Mgarr Harbour and it became very successful, but was given the opportunity to move into St. Georges Square and the rest is history.
Myself and Megan formed a partnership and decided to open up as a restaurant called Diamond.
